About Our Client

Our client is an international leading player in commodities, they are seeking a highly skilled and commercially astute Legal Counsel to join their legal team in Singapore.

This role supports a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing legal guidance across a broad range of matters related to global commodities trading, logistics, and corporate operations.

Job Description

  • This role reports to the Global Head of Ops and Legal, based overseas.
  • Provide legal advice and support on physical commodities trading (energy, metals and/or agricultural products), including contracts, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including sale and purchase contracts, charter parties, storage agreements, and service contracts.
  • Advise on corporate governance, joint ventures, M&A, and other strategic transactions.
  • Support dispute resolution and litigation matters, including coordination with external counsel.
  • Monitor and interpret relevant laws and regulations across jurisdictions, particularly in Asia-Pacific.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including trading, compliance, finance, and operations teams to ensure legal risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of legal policies, templates, and training programs.

The Successful Applicant

  • Admission to the Singapore bar, alongside an LLB (Honours) degree from a well-regarded university.
  • Qualified lawyer with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house within the commodities, energy, or shipping sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of international trade law, contract law, and regulatory frameworks relevant to commodities trading.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, particularly in Asia-Pacific.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commercial mindset with a pragmatic approach to legal problem-solving.
