Job Description

  • Deliver legally sound and commercially practical advice on all aspects of physical commodity trading, including contentious and non-contentious matters.
  • Provide comprehensive legal support for day-to-day operations, including:
    • Sales contract queries, payment disputes, defaults
    • Drafting bespoke charterparty clauses
    • Handling hire disputes, laytime/demurrage issues, and P&I-related matters
    • Structure, draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (e.g., offtake and tolling agreements, long-term supply contracts, chartering arrangements).
  • Manage arbitration (LMAA, GAFTA, FOSFA, RSA/SAL) and litigation across multiple jurisdictions, including coordination with external counsel.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Legal Counsel should have:

  • Qualified solicitor under English law or other common law jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 4 post-qualification experience.
  • Preferably with strong background in international trade and dry shipping law; experience in commodities trading is a plus.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Team player with a proactive and independent work style
