Job Description

The role of the Chief Engineer will be to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vessel equipment and machinery according to International conventions and regulations, Flag state requirements, Class requirements, local requirements and regulations and company specific instructions.

Duties

  • Maintain awareness and ensure that all technical staff is familiar with the relevant company requirements and, where applicable, the latest industry codes and standards including statutory rules and regulations.
  • Ensure all workspace technical and maintenance activities are carried out consistently with company policies and in accordance to vessel management system.
  • Proposes to the Master necessary reviews on the operation manual when changes to equipments or standard operating procedures takes place.
  • Issues, maintains and completes all documents and reports related to the engine department, as written instructions to all watch keeping engineers, monthly technical report, records of periodical and emergency maintenances performed.
  • Ensures that efficient and timely ordering of adequate resources and spares has been done for all ship's equipment.
  • Reports to the Master and support the investigation of accidents, near misses, hazardous and situations unsafe act/conditions, HSE non-conformities and other matters with implications for the safe operation of the vessel.
  • Notifies the Master immediately of any defects which may affect ships safety and operations capabilities or put at risk the marine environment.
  • Issues hand-over reports to his relieve and copies shore based management as per distribution list.

The Successful Applicant

  • Five (5) years as 1st Engineer on off-shore activity.
  • Computer literacy
  • As per Stcw95 and per company training matrix.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Holding an Stcw95 III/2
